“Sometimes you meet someone, and it’s so clear that the
two of you, on some level, belong together. Not as lovers,
but as friends, or as family, or as something entirely
different. We work, although we don’t always understand
one another and constantly bicker, we still work. You’re
the kind of person that someone meets throughout life,
out of nowhere, under the strangest of circumstances,
and they help you feel alive. I don’t know if that makes me
believe in coincidence or fate or sheer blind luck, but it
definitely makes me believe in something.
I don’t think you’ve had enough good friends in your life. I
know you have friends, and some of them are certainly
wonderful, but on the whole, I don’t think you’ve ever
been shown an unconditional type of love or friendship. I
think that terrifies you. I’m not even sure that you believe
in it. As a matter of fact, why would you believe in it?
Maybe you don’t have any frame of reference; you’re
always looking to see what somebody really thinks. You’re
always looking to see the motivation behind a word or an
action. I don’t know that you believe in goodness
anymore. If I could give you anything in the world, I would
giftwrap peace and true goodness for you to revel in
without question…”
